Finding The Used Caravan You Want

When you’re looking for your Caravan or Motorhome use the filters available at the top of the listings. We have a variety of vehicles for sale on these pages, which include motorhomes, camper trailers, and all sorts of caravans (such as hybrid and off-road caravans). You’ll no doubt know what you’re looking for so use those filters to view only the type of used caravans or RVs you’re hunting after.

You can then narrow down your choices by setting the price range and how far from your home you want to journey for this vehicle.

Tips On Buying A Second Hand Caravan

Avoid scams

If something looks too good to be true, it probably is. Especially if they're asking for a desposit over the phone (a common scam). Run a PPSR check to make sure the vehicle is not stolen or encumbered. You can visit https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/ for informative and up to date information.

Inspecting the caravan

You'll probably look at more than one caravan so take notes on each one. Use your phone to take some pictures. And use the phone's light (or better yet a torch) to inspect under the caravan and into the nooks and crannies. Upon inspection locate the identification and/or manufacturers plate and make sure the identification details match those provided by the seller i.e brand, registration number, Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and also check the chassis number. If you are inspecting a Motorhome you will also need to check the engine number as well. All these details should correspond with the PPSR you have undertaken. We'll supply another article soon about inspecting caravans, but for now make sure you check the chassis for cracks and rust, inspect the appliances, and open and close all cabinets and doors along with any sign ao water staining or damage. Also make sure all statutory inspections have been successfully carried out.

Doing the deal

As a seller you are attempting to get the best possible price you can but be careful not to price yourself out of the market. Also, be prepared to negotiate with the buyer if necessary. As a buyer you should have a clear indication of what you are searching for and also have carried out research as to what you feel is a reasonable market value. You want to get the best value for money. But so does the buyer. As a buyer don't ask, "What's the cheapest price you'll sell it for?" The seller doesn't want to supply that information. Know the price point you're aiming for and negotiate toward this. You can start at a lower price (but not too low) and work up from there. After negotiations have taken place and if you believe the price is still too high for you, it’s probably best to walk away. In other words don’t over commit and don’t purchase something you aren’t going to be happy with.
