The No Canvas Avan Camper
As is says on the Avan website, the Avan camper is the original “no canvas” camper. It folds down like a camper but has solid sides that fold up to create that distinctive A-shape. If you’ve ever seen one of these on the road (and who hasn’t) you’ll know that they’re instantly recognizable. They start with a tare weight of just a bit over 700kg so they’re towable by vehicles that can’t tow full caravans. They’re small in stature but with the solid sides they remove some of the hassles associated with camper trailers. This makes them a great Australian innovation that will suit many people wanting to take to the road.

These days Avan don’t just make their distinctive campers. They have a range that includes pop-tops (see here), hard tops and campervans. At the time of editing this article (Dec 2022) they had 3 pop-tops and 6 hard top caravans in their range. Both pop-tops and hard tops included models with slide outs.
