New Research Reveals Queensland Campers Are the Happiest Travellers

‘Cara-fans’ admit their unplugged lifestyle brings them tow-tal bliss

To coincide with Queensland’s longest running caravan Supershow, Caravanning Queensland has released new research which found caravan and camping trips positively impacts Aussies’ mood and energy levels.

The new research investigated caravanning trends of Queenslanders to understand what they love about the lifestyle and the benefits of being a ‘cara-fan’ and found campers are generally happier, healthier, and more energised thanks to a simple caravan or camping trip.

Research reveals that nearly two thirds (65%) of caravanners feel happier overall when they are living the great Australian dream of touring their own backyard and nearly half (44%) of ‘cara-fan’ enthusiasts feel more energised.

Not only do trips make campers happy, but the research found that over a third (34%) experience reduced stress and anxiety, and one in five (21%) say their sleep health improves significantly when they can disconnect and holiday in nature.

‘Van-life’ enthusiast and CEO of the Caravan Trade and Industries Association of Queensland, Jason Plant, said: “The findings have never been so relevant as they are today. Camping in all its different forms puts us on the doorstep of the great Queensland outdoors and provides a clear pathway to a healthier and happier lifestyle.”

“Given the many negative events that have been happening in recent times at home and abroad, anything that helps people to feel better about themselves and each other is vitally important, and I’m delighted caravan and camping can bring joy and happiness to our vast community of RV owners,” Plant said.

With Queensland being the third most popular destination and performing region for caravan and camping¹, the research revealed over half (55%) of Queenslanders find bliss parking up by the beach whilst nearly a third (31%) will escape into the boundless beauty of the bush.

Secretary of the Carousel Caravan Club, Alan Morton said their 53 members go away together every month excluding January and their club provides the opportunity for likeminded lovers of nature to disconnect and enjoy the simple joy of sitting around a campfire at night.

“We started the caravan club to connect with other road tripping adventures and so far, the favourite places we have visited as a group were Esk, Blackwater and Toowoomba.

“Our activities of choice as a group include disc bowls, darts, cricket, sitting around the campfire with a beverage and visiting the local pub or restaurant, where we are present in the moment and truly connected with our friends and the bonus is we make lasting and happy memories together,” concludes Alan.
