Queensland Government announces 20 per cent reduction to all light vehicle registrations that weigh 4.5t or less to assist in cost-of-living pressures
Last month, the Miles Government announced a 20 per cent registration reduction to all light vehicles for 12 months to assist Queenslanders with the cost of living.
The reduction will benefit caravan and tow vehicle owners with a 20 per cent discount across their combination RV registrations, which the state’s caravan industry association, Caravanning Queensland’s CEO Jason Plant says is a positive step in a challenging climate.
“I am very pleased to see our community of 200,000 RV owners included as part of the Miles Government’s measures to help relive cost of living pressure for Queenslanders. The money Queenslanders will be saving on their registrations will certainly help our van loving families who might be able to put that saving towards their next family road trip,” concludes Plant.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads Bart Mellish MP advises the reduction of fees will commence from 16 September 2024 and will apply to all light vehicles that weigh 4.5t gross vehicle mass (GVM) or less.
Caravanning is the perfect, affordable holiday for any Queenslander
Queensland’s largest caravan and camping event presented by Caravanning Queensland, the Let’s Go Queensland Caravan and Camping Supershow proved caravanning remains a strong holiday choice after a massive five day showcase at the Brisbane RNA Showgrounds.
Director of Lawrence RV, Jason Lawrence reports they were very happy with their sales at the Supershow with families purchasing their Lotus and Atlas caravan models.
“With the current economic climate, we didn’t expect to see as many family buyers this year, but surprisingly 50 per cent of sales on our Lotus and Atlas caravans were from the family demographic.
Mark Rixon, National Sales Manager of Paradise Luxury Motor Homes said they received more interest than previous years from self-funded retirees.
“We have progressively seen an increase in retirees wanting to travel Australia without compromising on luxury or style and in an RV that ticks all the boxes,” Mark said.
“They are happy to spend more money for a better road tripping experience. Wanting all the mod cons such as televisions, washing machines and dryers,” Mark concludes.
With nearly 250 exhibitors displaying the latest and greatest in camper trailers, motorhomes, tent trailers, caravans, slide-ons and accessories there was something to suit every need and budget at this year’s Supershow.
CEO of the Caravan Trade and Industries Association of Queensland, Jason Plant reported solid attendance over the five-day event with Saturday bringing in the biggest crowd.
“This year we also had a different vision for the event. We didn’t just want it to be just a caravan expo, we wanted to create an event to experience.
“Additional to our popular Weight, Towing and Touring educational Masterclasses we introduced the RV Touring Hub where we had different presentations about the caravan lifestyle and to answer any burning questions from aspiring ‘cara-fan’s.
The event offered entertainment galore over the weekend with the best of Brisbane’s up and coming musicians performing on the VAN JAMTM stage. Special guest performances from Bluey and Bingo in the ‘Bluey and Bingo Live Interactive Experience’ and an exclusive children’s entertainment area KidzKlub.
